Intro

Why see an Endodontist?

Endodontists are specialists in saving teeth, committed to helping you maintain your natural teeth for a lifetime. While all endodontists are dentists, less than three percent of dentists are endodontists. Just like a doctor in any other field, endodontists are specialists because they’ve completed an additional two or more years of training beyond dental school. Their additional training focuses on diagnosing tooth pain, performing root canal treatments, retreatments, microsurgeries, and treating traumatic dental injuries. Their advanced training, specialized techniques, and state-of-the-art technologies mean you get the highest quality care with the best possible result: saving your natural teeth!

For this reason, dentists and endodontists often work as partners in care so that the best member of your dental team is handling each appropriate issue with your teeth.

Why see a Board Certified Endodontist

Dr Tischke is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, a distinguished group of endodontists who have demonstrated exceptional knowledge and skill, dedication to continued professional growth, and a commitment to providing the highest quality of patient care. The American Board of Endodontics (ABE) is the only certifying board in the dental specialty of endodontics recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Association of Endodontists (AAE).

To become a Diplomate, also known as being Board Certified, the ABE requires three rigorous examinations to be successfully completed by endodontists.

  • First, they must pass a one day written exam covering a broad range of knowledge including anatomy, biochemistry, pathology, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, radiology, statistics, clinical endodontics and other related disciplines.
  • Second, endodontists must pass a grilling oral examination given by a panel of experts about a variety of diagnostic and treatment situations. To pass this extensive exam, they must demonstrate a high level of skill in problem solving, decision making, analysis, creativity, and situational evaluation.
  • Finally, endodontists must submit a portfolio of a specific variety of clinical cases from their own practice. These cases must demonstrate exceptional knowledge, skills, and expertise in the full scope of the specialty of endodontics. And most importantly, the cases must include documentation of at least 12 months of follow-up to show healing.

Becoming a Diplomate, or Board Certified, requires hundreds of additional hours or preparation to test judgement, skill and knowledge to demonstrate the highest quality of care.
